Ahhh those pesky megabooks, they look so cool yet they look so hard to install…cgi?…CHMOD? aaaah!
Well actually they are amazingly easy to do, as long as you know FTP it should be a breeze! Let me walk you through it!

For this we will assume that you already have an FTP client and are familiar with how to use it.

Step one.
Well firsty you will need to download Megabook, (note: Megabook seems to move once a bloody week, so if the above URL isn’t working just search google.com for it :) ) click on ‘download’ then click the Mbookv20.zip link to download it, use winzip to unzip the file then we are ready to go.

Step two.
Login to your website with your FTP program, click into you ‘cgi-bin’ directory, if you dont already have one then click the ‘mkDir’ button and create it.

Step three.
Upload the following files in ASCII* mode…

admin.cgi
guestbook.cgi
signgbook.cgi
viewpriv.cgi

Now you need to CHMOD them to to 755, Right click on the uploaded file and a menu will appear, choose ‘chmod (unix)’ Click here to see.
A box will appear that looks like
this
Tick the boxes as in the above picture and click ‘ok’

Next upload theses files also in ASCII…

setup.db
gbook.db
header.txt
entry.txt
footer.txt
badwords.txt
banned.txt
preview.txt
missing.txt
usermail.txt

CHMOD these ones to 666, tick the same boxes I have
here

* ASCII mode, with most FTP clients you will be given the option of three “modes” ASCII, Binary and auto. Click here to see what I mean.

Step four.
Type in the URL to the admin file in your address bar, it should look like this but with your sites information…

http://www.domain.com/cgi-bin/admin.cgi

It will ask you for a password, type in megabook. I strongly suggest the first thing you do is change the password to something else, megabook is just the default password.

Step five.
Edit the layout and settings of your megabook to how you desire, then go to http://www.domain.com/cgi-bin/guestbook.cgi to see how it looks.

And thats it, pretty simple huh? If you have any questions or require further help on this tutorial please ask at Sway Forum where either myself or someone else will help you out. Any emails asking for help will be ignored.
