This year sees the 6th UK Packaging Awards which are due to be held in the capital at the London Hilton located on Park Lane on the night of Wednesday 16th November.
This is one of the most prestigious award ceremonies for the packaging industry and is becoming bigger and better each year – with this year’s being no exception! It is run by Packaging News and last year was a complete sell-out hence the move to the bigger (and somewhat nicer) location.
There are 20 categories separated into two sectors; the Quality Awards and the Performance awards. There is a category for all types of packaging from foam packaging to corrugated card and even glass. To be selected for these awards is a great achievement in itself, but it takes an exceptional design to win the category. Some of the top categories include Innovation of the Year, Design team of the Year and the Consumer Convenience Award.
The judges of the competition are renowned, in the industry, as experts in all forms of packaging. They are looking for something completely out of the ordinary that is both practical and innovative.
So what’s so great about packaging?
To people not involved in the industry, these awards may seem like a lot of fuss about nothing, however, if you actually think about it we use packaging on a daily basis. Whether you are sending a parcel, storing some old files or even eating your morning bowl of cereal, you will come into contact with some form of packaging.
Packaging comes in many different shapes, sizes and materials so there is a packaging solution for every need! And even if there isn’t, many companies offer bespoke packaging catering to your individual problem.

After first working out that a Celestron PowerSeeker is one of the fancy pants telescopes available on the market and realising it is way out of my price range for him (I usually spend about £10 on him because he’s such a pain to buy for!!) I told my mum who probably will get it for him and she is now trying to work him down to a beginner dobsonian telescope instead.

I still have no idea why he has a sudden interest in telescopes though and I have been too afraid to ask

I suppose that’s what getting older does to you, you hit 30 and start wishing you’d done more in your 20s and thinking you look like an ancient old fossil.

I was just watching some cosmetic surgery video guides from The Victorian Cosmetic Institute to see if I would actually be brave enough to go there and I am pretty sure that I would be, but again it would be if money were no object.

As much as I’d love a little lipo I can’t imagine spending thousands of my own hard earned money on it.

But if I win the lottery – cosmetic surgeons here I come.

It’s ages since I have been to an amusement park and I really want to go now, I think the last time I went any where was Blackpool Pleasure Beach for the fireworks and that must have been at least 5 years ago now.

25 random facts about me, enjoy.

1. I am taking this stupid thing because every one else is doing it and I don’t like to feel left out.

2. I eat the same sandwich every day. Wholemeal bread, Salad, Chicken Tikka & BBQ sauce and once a week I treat myself to a slice of bacon in it as well.

3. I have the same extras with my sandwich each day and they have to be eaten in the correct order. 3 x Cherry tomatoes, 2 x fish sticks, 6 x pickled onions and 6 x grapes for ‘pudding’.
The correct order is Cherry Tom, half a fish stick, 2 x onions, half a fish stick, 2 x onions, Cherry tom, half a fish stick, 2 x onions, cherry tom, half a fish stick, 6 x grapes.

4. I won a Wii in November. I think it’s the only thing I have ever won in my life — unless you count the ‘Paint an egg’ competition I won at little school and the ‘Lazer cosmos projector’ I won a few weeks later.

5. Gav and I have known each other for almost 10 years now and have been together for almost 6 years.

6. I am still in touch with several people that I became friends with in the dreamcast chat room back in the 1990s. Tezz, Ian and Mark to name a few.

7. I run at least 12 websites, I think there’s probably a few more as well, I have lost count.

8. At 28 I think I have finally outgrown the need to buy every thing I can in PINK. Even though my ipod is pink, as is my phone, as is my DS, as is the laptop I desperately want….hmm…OK scrap that.

At 28 I still have a childish obsession with buying every thing I can in pink.

9. I will never dye my hair again after I had a hardcore chemical allergic reaction in 2005 that left me extremely unwell and practically bald. Despite the mess it left me in, it’s still quite hard to resist the urge as I have dyed my hair since I was about 14!

11. I am still a reality tv junkie and watch shows from all over the world not just the UK. The Biggest Loser Australia is probably my favourite

12. I quit smoking in November 2006. First attempt. Job done. I put on about 2 stone though because I replaced the fags with food, doh.

13. I quit drinking in February 2007. I had a pint and a half of cider and black on holiday last summer and I had a sip of Gavs beer on Tuesday night just gone because he ordered a stella and it didn’t look like a stella. Other than that I have not touched a drop.

14. Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook. If it comes in a can and takes 10 minutes of occasional stirring I can just about cope with that, any thing else is Gavs department.

15. I think that a lot of people probably think I am a rude biatch because I don’t come across as very friendly. Well, it’s true I am not very friendly and I am rather anti social — but that doesn’t mean I don’t like you, it just means I prefer to be left alone

16. I am a night owl. Always have been, always will be.

I go to bed around 6am and get up around 2pm — a lot of people think (cough Christopher Gingerhead) this is fucked up and makes me a lazy bum, but my sleeping pattern is very consistent and healthy, it’s just at different times to most peoples.

17. HATE talking on phones, hate hate hate. I have made about 5 phones calls in my entire adult life. I guess it’s a phobia. I still get my mum to call places and pretend to be me some times, she makes most of my appointments for me. It’s not even like I just don’t like talking to strangers, I don’t like talking to any one — even long time friends and Gav!

18. I want to visit Australia one day.

19. I am ridiculously cautious with money, to the point of being a tight arse. I pontificate over every pound I spend.

I used to hate people who would correct others spelling and grammar and think they were losers who should get a life — now I find myself doing it and it drives me crazy, it is also rather dangerous as I don’t have the best grammar skills myself so make as many mistakes as the people I am correcting (in my head, I don’t correct them out loud!)

21. I hate the way that Americans don’t put an ‘and’ in between numbers. It’s two thousand AND nine, not two thousand nine. Thank you, please.

22. If I could have a magic zero calorie food that I could eat and eat and eat and not have it’s calories count — it wouldn’t be Chocolate, or muffins, or ice cream, or chips, or crisps…it’d be Lancashire and/or Feta cheese, mmmm cheeeese.

23. I always look at peoples pics on facebook, always. If you upload pictures or get tagged in an album — I am there, even if the album contains 100 pics and only one of them has you in it and I don’t know any of the other people. That’s really lame, I am not sure why I admitted that.

24. Is wondering if this is nearly over yet?

25. I would list ‘Shopping’ as my favourite activity.

Actually, I don’t want them that badly because I am not willing to pay £12 – £16 for them, especially as some of them are crap and DealExtreme don’t guarantee that you will get 9 different ones – but I love them and I wish they’d either drop the price or sell them separately!

I really don’t have much to say, so I am not sure why I am blogging…but, hey ho.
I went and got me one of those Myspace thingers, yeah I am down with the cool kids :thumbsup: I only got it because I got sick of not being able to view profiles and stuff that were in my tracker and I’ll never use it probably, but feel free to add me as a friend or whatever it is you do there! I also created a Youtube account, now I have finally worked out how I can edit big .avi files….seriously I was looking for a nice simple little program that would just let me crop out smaller clips from full programs for about…4 months? Why did no one ever tell me about windows movie maker, already installed on my computer and capable of doing exactly what I need it too, durr. So yeah, go add me there too if you have an account…

I did something bad…really bad….I signed up for one of those ‘Free Ipod crap‘ things! Aaaaaaaaah, I am going to become one of those annoying people who’s constantly pushing their referral URL!! I’m not sure why I did it to be honest, during all of my many attempts to win an iPod I always thought that these things weren’t worth the energy…but heck…i’ve spent that long unsuccessfully trying to win one that I probably could have completed this thing by now!
I’m not going to go on about it every entry though, I will just put the link somewhere prominent, mention it now and then and pray for the best! I went on a bit of a shopping spree at the weekend, I don’t spend money very often…but when I do I do it in style :shopping:

Thankfully I won’t really lose out on any money, I sold my old VK530 for £48…which is awesome considering it’s a bag of wank and cost £110 new over a year ago! I will be able to sell back my Samsung (yes, the new phone I bought less than a month ago) for a similar amount to what I paid for it and I have sold several other things on eBay the last week and made a nice amount in advertising sales
