Apologies to those of you this does not interest, but I have been following the recent Google Smackdown on Payperpost bloggers closely (for those not in the know, they have reduced the page rank of every one who sells it their page rank from whatever they previously had, to a big fat ZERO - Swaymyway.com and Plugboard.org were both affected), and this has been brewing inside my brain for a few days.
Good.
It seems that the people affected by this, that is the people who do paid blogging and have gone from being able to make $100 a day to $10 a day if they are lucky, are currently so blinded by their hate of the evil google and busy organising boycotts and firing off angry emails to them to step back and actually think about the situation. One person even emailed google, and I kid you not, used the words ‘you are taking food from the mouths of my children’ in all seriousness, and this was followed by applause from several other people confirming it was ‘A good email’.
Google page rank was intended as a rank of a websites ‘worth’, based on several factors including the age of the site, the amount of traffic and the amount of backlinks, if you managed to get a PR 5 weblog then you had something to be proud of, because you’d worked for it and been ranked accordingly - your reward was the bragging rights of having a good PR and high placings in googles search engine. Google page rank was never intended to be for whoever has the highest budget to buy it from other sites and it has always been against the rules for sites to sell their page rank, which is exactly what paid blogging is.
You can wrap it up however you want, ‘Oh I am just blogging about what I would any way, I might as well get paid for it, right?’ but we all know that those guys aren’t paying you for your traffic, or because they like your website, or because they think you have a great writing style - they are paying you for your Page Rank, there’s no escaping that simple fact.
You were doing something wrong, and in my opinion all Google has done…rather than trying to quash the competition or punish those entrepreneurial marketing geniuses…is try and stop people abusing their system to line their own pockets and give other sites ‘unfair’ page rank.
If it wasn’t for google, you wouldn’t have made those thousands of dollars you already made off their back, but now that they’ve rightfully punished you for ‘cheating’ - they are evil :g: - Nope sorry, that just doesn’t make sense.
Now, I’d be a big fat hypocrite if I was trying to insult those who sold their page rank here…given that I do it myself (via TextLinkAds here on Swaymyway.com and at Plugboard.org, and by doing PayPerPost myself on RealityTVFan.org)…that’s not what I am trying to do, if you’ve managed to make so much money from your abusing googles page rank system, then good for you. But, really, can you honestly and truly put your hand on your heart and say that google have done something wrong here with a straight face?
Time to just hold your hands up, admit you got busted doing something you shouldn’t have been doing, and move on.

If you disagree with me, please do say so…I expect it to be a 50/50 split so I don’t expect a blanket of ‘I agree’ in the comments. I won’t take offense if you want to argue against my points - as long as you don’t call me a twat in the process :smash:

Horaayy..there are 5 comment(s) for me so far ;)
It was hard to understand if you were being upset, or sarcastic at first… but now finishing your post… I think you think it’s a good way, however now that you don’t get the benefits either, it’s kind of hard.
I have thought about making money with google on my website, but once I thought about all the spam I could potentially attract, I backed out of it right away. I think it’s a good thing then that Google has heightened their securities and stopped the abuse. That way, they don’t have to charge so much for their services… for now…
I agree with you. The sites that pay people based on their pagerank really need another method and I think Google are just trying to encourage that. They aren’t all sitting at a table discussing how they can put another family under the poverty line.. they just want the pagerank to reflect the site, that’s all. Fake and forced “reviews” are bad content. No one cares, it’s that simple.
Apparently I’m not the only one who realizes that selling PageRank is unethical.
What I can’t believe is that PayPerPost still acts like it’s entirely legal and not in any way underhanded.
You said it a lot clearer than I did, and hats off to you!
