Thanks for the lovely comments re the new layout, gosh you guys are just so darn lovely :throb:

So, what’s the deal with Despair then? Is it that it used to be good and it’s gone to shit lately, or has it always been like this? So far out of the nine comments I should have received I only got three, I’m no mathematician but even I know that sucks, also, am I meant to actually report the people who don’t comment, or is that done automatically? I am not sure if the report function is just intended for reporting abuse and the like…hmmm? Also if you do report someone, does it actually achieve anything or does it just send the admin an email that sits in a pile with 7000 other emails, I just wasted a further 10 minutes working out who hadn’t commented and reporting them, so I’d rather know if there’s even any point or not?

In other news….Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, I broke my phone…my perfect, lovely, brand new, beautiful phone :loser:
Well, I say i broke it, actually I have no clue what happened to it…I left my handbag in someone elses capable hands for around 15 minutes and when I next checked my phone after getting it back…great big ugly crack on the screen. What happened was, when we got to the pub there was this big group of people having a meal/birthday celebration and there was so many of them they were taking over an entire half of the pub, so we all had to loiter around the bar, my one friend hung her coat and bag on a hook by the bar and I handed her my bag and asked her to hang mine there too. The pub was pretty rammed and lots of staff were walking around tending to the party people etc, there was several times when we were asked to move, bumped into etc so we were generally in the way. Any way, about 20 minutes later the party people finally cleared off and we went to sit down, S handed me my bag…and then a few minutes later when I got my phone out to check…I noticed the crack
I showed it to her and she was like ‘oh my God, how did that happen?’, then I just put it back in my bag and tried not to think about it because honestly, if I had I would have cried in public and it would have totally ruined my night, it wasn’t until after I got home….well…after a temporary distraction :censored::wink3: that I allowed myself to think about it…and then I just sat there for a few hours letting out the occasional wail and whimper:

“It’s not the end of the world, I am sure it’ll be fixable….but….butt….butttt my beautiful phonnnnnnnnnnne meh mneh meeehehehfh”

The thing is, there’s no way that whoever did it didn’t know they had done it, phone screens don’t break that easily…I’ve never had a broken one before and over the years my phones have been knocked about quite a bit, someone quite blatantly stood on it. I think Blakelyn has it right when she says:

That sucks!! Probably some drunk ass was stumbling, fell into your purse, knocked it on the ground, stepped on it, then hung it back up. That’s my theory.

Except I think it was more likely one of the people I was out with than some random person, because I’d have noticed a random person. The great news is though, I have taken it to a man in the market today and he says he can fix it for £10, thank gosh, that was like the minimum I was expecting it to be…it’s literally only the plastic screen that is cracked so isn’t a major job, it’s £10 I’d rather not be spending (you guys should know what I am like with money by now, miserly doesn’t even come close) but I can live with it. I’ll never hand my bag off to someone else in future though, it stays with me always.

That really, really sucks… You’re totally right, it’s really hard to break the screen from a phone, my phones have been knockjed about too, and they’ve never been broksn :P

I’ve been a part of Despair for a while, and it was better when I joined than how it is now… however, I think there has been a lot of changes behind the scenes so hopefully it’ll become better again. And yes, the report links in the email are for you to use if a member doesn’t comment – they are not automatically reported. The report email is sent to the admin (Naco), and currently only she deals with the actual suspensions (moderators only report, they are not able to suspend people) so it can take a while for the email to take effect, depending on how busy Naco is.

Eeep, I take what I said about suspensions back – moderators can deactivate members :)

Ooh, you new layout is funkay! I like the way all the comments, and each blog entry goes … Like their own DIVs almost? Sweet! That must be extremely complicated … o_o;;; I don’t know anything about PHP, and I’m assuming that’s how you did it! ((HTML can only do so much. XD))

I don’t know anything about Despair! It seems popular, but I’ve never checked it out fully.

Geeeeez, that frigging sucks about your phone … I’d bring it back to where you got it, and make a big scene, and try to get a replacement! Could’ve been a faulty one, aye?

You can report if they don’t comment on you either, and Naco would usually get to it right away, if she’s on the computer at the time, or else, in a day’s time. And coughiamamodatdespaircough but I can only deactivate members, if they don’t have a link up, or is on hiatus, or website is down, etc. Naco is the one who’s doing the 123 and you’re out thing, which of course could take a while if other people don’t report.

Awh no! Your phone ! :( That’s some crazy crack though, from the pictuire, it looks like a bullet hit it or something, or someone high heel accidently stepped on it.

I gave up on despair for that very reason. There really was no point. I can’t belive what happened to your cell phone! That stinks! I would be furious too. I understand you dillema. It’s good that you found a guy that could fix it for such a good price though.

Great entry!

Despair has gotten worse hasn’t it? I barely get the comments I’m supposed to get. I report people when their site is on hiatus and I can’t comment so just in case they decide to report me, I’ve already reported them.

I think despair is too big in order for them to be able to check every report but maybe they do. I’m thinking of leaving it but I’ve found some new blogs that I love reading through it so maybe not!

That totally sucks about your phone! At least you found someone who can fix it at a good price. I cracked a screen before just from dropping it, well I’ve cracked two screens just from dropping them lol but they still worked so I wasnt that bothered. Now I have a razr and I’d cry if anything happened to my pink precious.
I like the layout, I’ve always liked pink and gray together :D

As much as I like the idea of Despair, I’m rather ticked about it too. I have gotten sites that were down, on hiatus, or just plain unreadable in Firefox (and I will not switch browsers for that one site). Or people would report me for not commenting, when I was supposed to get comments from other people and never got them. I wasn’t too anal about it, but now it’s kinda pissing me off, so I know the frustration.

Aww…poor phone. :(

What are some creative writing games to use for junior high students?…

I need some very creative ideas that will loosen up the atmosphere as my students are very serious. Any word games or writing games are appreciated!….
