 My poor head, i’ve had a bad headache bordering on Migraine for over 24 hours now. I really should mention this when I go to the doctors to get a new Pill :prescription:, i’ve been getting them for the last 3 or 4 months now in the final week of my 3 weeks on the Pill. Boo, BOO.
Any hoo…I think I have mentioned this before, infact I know I have…but not for a long time. American actors cannot do British accents, or at least…I thought they couldn’t for the longest time, I used to laugh at them whenever I heard one….so imagine my suprise when I found out that actually Daphne from Friaser was from Manchester
I decided to put it down to the fact she’d been living in America so long she had forgotten her real accent…so then imagine my shock when she was on a TV show over here and she sounded perfectly British :g:
Next was Jerry Springer, whenever they spoke to a geniune British person in the audience or had them on as a guest i’d be shouting
‘But we don’t sound like that’
American reality TV ditto, a genuine British persons accent sounds like an American trying to do a British accent…the judge chap from America’s next top model for example.
Any way, this always confused the hell out of me but eventually I accepted that it’s just the comparison that makes it sound wrong…like when you are so used to hearing American accent and then in pops a British one it just sounds different to when you hear nothing but British ones…personally I don’t agree with this threory but I accept it as truth because it is the only way to make my brain stop thinking about it.
This brings me to my reason for posting this here…last night I watched the new show…Britain’ Next Top Model (same format as America’s, including the cheesy as fuck ‘I have 10 beautiful girls…’ spiel just before they boot one…the only difference is that the ‘na na na na na na’ theme tune is speeded up, it sounds like it’s on crack lol) Not an American in sight…yet as soon as the host Lisa Butcher opened her gob I thought, wait a minute…she sounds like an American trying to do a British accent…hmm oh well, maybe she lived in America for a long time or something…but then as each of the girls were introduced they sounded like that too, there was girls from South Wales, Ireland, Newcastle and Leeds…all places that have amazingly broad accents yet…they all sounded the bloody same.
So there goes my comparison theory, you are probably all thinking me quite strange right now but this is one of those things that has always baffled and bugged me. I wonder if it is the same for other countrys, I wonder if any one else from Britain notices/hears the same thing I do etc
I just wish there was an…accentologist out there who could explain the whole thing to me.
Right, i’m heading back to my bed…don’t want to be staring at this machine too long *rubs head*
Before I go, please vote for me in the Ipod Contest, even though I think it’s pretty obvious by now angelsforhope is going to win it again, good job iPod contest people…you’ve killed what could have been a really busy and exciting comp by having a shitty rule that allows selfish people to keep on winning.

Hi
i hope you feel better soon.
Your theory confused me :/
Get well soon ♥
Hope you feel better soon!
ouch, 24 hour headache/migraine?
I wish I could relate to your accent complaint, however Canadian accents don’t quite differ from American accents unless they’re from the southern states *shrug*
Wow, that accent theory makes my head spin! I always wonder on TV about which actors are really British, and which ones are faking it. Ah, so interesting! Apparently, I have a “big city” Canadian accent [I’m living in a small city at the moment. XD]
I completely understand with the whole accent thing! Americans cannot do aussie accents either, and mind you aussies in america makingt heir accents more obvious sound just as bad!
My mom dislikes the movie “Anna and the King”, because of Jodie Foster’s fake British accent.
Why can’t people just be happy with there own accents and have birtish actors playing british parts etc! Oh well …. I hope your head gets better I have been accidently battered and bruised the last few days so I kind of know how you feel!
awesome vector!
I love the vector. 24hrs with a headache? OUCH!
As far as the accent thing goes…. no wonder you have a headache, reading that confused me slightly.
Different American accents sound strange to me…
I live in Texas, and believe me no one around here goes around town with their horses and saying “howdy” and sounds like TV makes us sound.
Just think, if you are in 2nd this month, and angelichope wins, that means they can’t enter next month which means you could be in FIRST! YAY!
The only person I can recall that is British doing an American accent is Kate Winslet in “The Life Of David Gale” or whatever the hell it was called. She did a good job though!
Nah, they can enter as often as they like…vm-online entered and won 2 months in a row.
